Taking an STD home test is very simple. After ordering an STD test, you will receive a test set with a test tube from us at home. For women, a cotton swab is included, with which a little 'material' can be removed from the vagina. Men are tested for urine, so a pipette is provided for them to place urine in the test tube. An anal or oral test is done in the same way for men and women, namely also with a cotton swab. Using the cotton swabs is easy and painless: you insert the cotton swab into the relevant body area you want to test, collect material and place the cotton swab in the test tube. You then close this test tube and send it to the laboratory in the mailing envelope, including the application form. You will receive the results online within 48 hours of arrival at the lab. An STD test is the only way to know for sure if you have an STD. In most cases, STDs are transmitted through unprotected sex, for example sex without a condom (this also applies if the condom has slipped off or torn during sex). If you have not had unprotected sex, the chance that you have an STD is small. Do you have complaints that fit an STD, such as blisters, painful urination or more discharge than normal? Or have you been warned about an STD, do you have many changing sex partners or is there another one cause that could cause you to have an STD? Then contact your GP or get tested. Keep in mind the window period, which means that you can only reliably test for STDs after a certain time after sex. For chlamydia and gonorrhea, that is 2 weeks.
